Three to seven new videos land in the app every Wednesday at 8pm. On alternate Wednesdays, Ken's live on Zoom at 7pm taking questions about the jobs members are stuck on, 26 nights a year. It's the reason members are still here in year three.

The new videos land

Three to seven of them, every week, no exceptions. Filmed on real jobs that week, added to the module they belong in.

Live at seven, new videos at eight. Wednesday night is the night, and it's the reason members are still here in year three.

Can't make it? Every call is recorded and goes into the library. There are already 30 sitting in the Zoom Calls module. Watch it Thursday on the way to site.

26 nights a year you can put your own job in front of a 40-year electrician.

Who this is really for

Your licence says you can do all of it. Only your experience says otherwise.

Most sparkies don't choose a speciality. They get one, from whatever the company that hired them happened to do that year. Everything on this platform is residential, filmed in real Australian homes. If that's the part of the trade you've never been let near, this is the whole point.

Solar & battery

You can wire an inverter blindfolded

Panels, racking, isolators, string testing. Same job, different roof, five days a week.

Never touched: a switchboard upgrade, a hot water element, a ceramic fuse board, a fault find in a 1970s house.

Commercial fit-out

Kilometres of tray and 400 light fittings

Big sites, big runs, and one repeated task until the job's finished and you start the next one.

Never touched: a domestic service call, a meterbox upgrade, an oven or cooktop connection, a customer standing behind you.

Industrial & plant

Motors, starters, control gear

You'll happily pull apart a three-phase control panel. You know your way around a plant room.

Never touched: a rewire, a rough-in, smoke alarm compliance, or a board with nothing labelled on it.

Data centres & comms

Immaculate work. Zero variety.

Containment, racks, terminations to a standard most sparkies never reach. And the same environment every single day.

Never touched: anything where you have to work out what's already in the wall before you can start.

New homes

Rough-in, fit-off, next slab

Volume housing on repeat. Fast, clean, and everything is brand new and to plan.

Never touched: fault finding, an old install, a repair job, or anything where the plan doesn't match the house.

Coming back to domestic

You did this once. Years ago.

You've been in another sector so long that the rules, the products and the switchgear have all moved on without you.

Never touched: EV chargers, electric hot water services, interconnected smoke alarms, RCBOs. Some of it didn't exist last time you were on the tools in a house, and the rest has moved on since.

What residential actually opens up
  • Service work. The calls that come in every day of the week, all year, recession or not
  • Your own customers, not someone else's site, and the ones who ring you back
  • Weekend and after-hours work at a rate you set yourself
  • Compliance work that repeats. Smoke alarms, safety switches, rental checks
  • The step to going out on your own, which almost nobody takes straight from a site job
  • Being able to say yes when your mum, your mate or your neighbour asks you to have a look at something
From members in exactly this position

"As an electrical apprentice who works in a company that does 100% solar only, Electrical How To has been an invaluable learning tool. It ranges from little tips and tricks of the trade to understanding light and power circuits and fitting-off techniques, which is all new to me. Literally."

Kosiana, solar apprentice

"As a fourth-year commercial and industrial apprentice, this has been a real handy insight into the domestic game. I've picked up a few of the tips and tricks I wasn't taught by my tradesman."

Alex Munro, commercial & industrial

Domestic isn't a step down. It's the half of the trade you were never shown.

The elephant in the room

"Yeah, but YouTube's free."

It is. And it's the most expensive way to learn this trade, because you only find out it was wrong after you've already done the job that way.

Use YouTube. Plenty of members do. But nobody has ever built a career on a search bar that doesn't know what country you're in. Free is only cheap right up until the moment it's wrong, and then it costs you a callback, a customer, or a licence.

The maths

It's not an expense. It's the cheapest line on your books.

If you run your own business, you already sign off on all of this every year without blinking. Put us next to the rest of your overheads and it stops looking like a big number.

What it already costs you to run the business, every year
Vehicle: rego, insurance, servicing, tyres$2,500 +
A new installation tester$1,500 – 3,000
Public liability insurance$1,000 – 2,500
Coffees, lunches on the run, a slab, a round of golf$1,300 – 2,500
Accountant and bookkeeping$800 – 2,000
Phone plan$900 – 1,400
One day of face-to-face CPD, one topic$600 – 900
Electrical How To: 1,780+ videos, all year$1,284 – 1,428

Read that list again. The coffees and the golf cost the same. Nobody sits down and agonises over any of that, and none of it has ever stopped you making a mistake on a switchboard.

$24.69
Per week · $1,284 paid upfront
Cost per video72 cents
New videos included this year150 – 350
In billable hours, per monthUnder 1 hour
In billable hours, per yearAbout 1.5 days
Cost after tax deductionLower again

You'd pay an apprentice more than $1,284 in the time it takes them to not work out a fault you could have shown them in nine minutes.

Now the other side of the ledger
What one job pays: the jobs you're currently handing over
Switchboard upgrade$1,200 – 2,500
EV charger install$900 – 1,800
Hot water repair$350 – 550
Smoke alarm compliance upgrade$400 – 800
Meterbox upgrade$3,000 – 5,500
CCTV installation$1,800 – 4,000
Fault find call-out$180 – 350

This is the part everyone misses. It isn't only about saving money. It's services you can't currently sell. Every category on the board above is a line you could be quoting on next month.

What guessing costs you

The job you handed over

You pass it to another sparky because you've never done one. That revenue never comes back, and now they've got your customer's number.

The two hours on site

Working it out in front of the customer, phone in one hand. Two hours of your rate, gone, and they watched you do it.

The callback

Drive back, parts again, another two hours. $400 before you count the review you can't undo.

The job you quoted wrong

You didn't know what was involved, so you guessed low. You're now working for free until Friday.

One meterbox upgrade pays for the year, twice over.

Everything after that is profit

Job values are indicative and vary by region and scope, so plug in your own rates. Deductibility depends on your circumstances; check with your accountant.

The part nobody costs in

Everything else on that list wears out.

The van is worth less every month. The tester gets dropped off a roof. The coffee is gone by ten. You buy the insurance again next year, and the year after that. All of it is money you spend once and never see again.

Gone within the year
  • Fuel, coffee and lunch on the way to site
  • This year's insurance premium
  • A tester you'll replace
  • Consumables, tool hire, replacement blades
  • A vehicle worth less than when you bought it
Yours for the rest of your career
  • How to upgrade a switchboard properly, not hopefully
  • How to find a fault instead of chasing it for two hours
  • Forty years of one electrician's methods, handed over
  • The jobs you currently turn down, added to what you sell
  • Walking into a house knowing what to do. That never leaves you

You aren't buying 1,780 videos. You're buying the difference between guessing at thirty and knowing at sixty.

Learn a job once. Get paid for it for the next twenty years.

That's not an expense. It's the cheapest apprenticeship you'll ever buy

Not running a business?

Here's your version of the maths.

You don't have callbacks and quotes to worry about. You've got a wage, and one question that decides it: how fast do you become the sparky who gets given the good work?

What each step up the ladder is worth
1st year apprenticeapprox. $600 / wk
2nd year apprenticeapprox. $700 / wk
3rd year apprenticeapprox. $850 / wk
4th year apprenticeapprox. $1,000 / wk
Qualified electrician$1,400 – 1,700 / wk
Electrical How To$24.69 / wk

One step up that ladder is worth roughly $150 a week. This costs $24.69. The membership is about 3% of a third-year's pay, and it's the 3% that decides how fast you climb the other 97%.

What it's actually buying you

The tradesman you didn't get put with

Your apprenticeship shows you whatever your boss happens to be doing this year. If that's solar racking or LED upgrades, you can finish your time never having done a switchboard. Ken is the tradesman who shows you the rest.

Getting off the drill

Apprentices get given the jobs they've proved they can do. Turn up on Monday having already watched the job on Sunday night, and you stop being the one drilling holes and carrying the ladder.

Being the one they keep

When work slows down, bosses keep the apprentice who saves them time and let go of the one who costs it. That decision is worth an entire year's wage and it gets made on how useful you are.

Day one of being qualified

The day you get your licence, you're expected to walk into a stranger's house and know everything. Nobody feels ready. The ones who do are the ones who'd already watched it done.

Ask your boss first. It's $289 a year to put you on.

Around a quarter of the price, and it's the business's deduction, not yours

Wage figures are indicative only and vary by year, state and agreement, so check the current Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award for your rates.

Online training for electricians

Real jobs. Real houses. Real Australian voltage.

Nothing on the platform was filmed in a classroom. If Ken's showing you a board upgrade, it's because he was booked to do one that morning.

The sparky in the videos

Ken Sutton. Forty years, one licence on the line.

Ken on the tools, explaining what he's doing and why. Not a presenter reading a script. He's a licensed contractor who's built a residential business and trained the sparkies who now run their own.

The gap Electrical How To fills is simple: your apprenticeship shows you whatever your boss happened to be doing that year. It doesn't show you the switchboard from 1968, the hot water system nobody makes anymore, or the fault you've never seen. Ken's been filming those for years so you don't have to learn them the expensive way.

Every method on the platform is one he'd stake his own licence on, because he does.

"I was on the fence for 12 months, not sure whether I should spend the money to join. I'm kicking myself that I didn't join sooner. I've had private videos filmed for specific jobs, and when I've reached out for help my questions are answered promptly."

Member

"I wasn't completely sure what I was getting for the cost. But when I purchased it I was stoked with the amount of content and the detail gone into the videos. The knowledge and the confidence you'll gain is 100% worth it."

Jayden Reid

"Imagine a residential genius in your pocket 24/7 to help you on jobs where you might not be 100% confident. Then if you're really stuck, you can call the residential electrical genius. Keeping my membership forever."

Nick Creen

"I initially hesitated because I wasn't sure it would be worth the investment. It has exceeded my expectations. If I'd known how much value it would bring, both to my skills and my business, I'd have signed up much sooner."

Kyall Eager

"So handy to have as a resource onsite when I need to confirm a process. I no longer need to call anyone for help onsite. The help is in my pocket."

Member

"It's worth the money and it's a tax write-off anyway. Definitely worth having EHT in your corner if you have any issues on site, or just need that confidence to walk into any job knowing what to do."

Running a team?

Stop paying a qualified sparky to teach things Ken's already filmed.

Every time your tradesman stops to walk an apprentice through a board upgrade, that's half an hour of your best billable rate gone. Three times a week and it's costing you more per month than putting the whole team on for a year.

Join as the business owner, then add each employee for $289 a year. Same full access as everyone else. Your apprentices turn up on Monday having already watched the job they're about to do.

Set up a team account
$289
Per employee, per year

Four apprentices for $1,156/yr. Less than one day of a trainer's time, and they can watch it again at 9pm the night before.

Let's be blunt

Built over years, one job at a time.

Not because it's clever. It's years of work nobody else was willing to do. Every job filmed properly, the first time, while it was actually happening.

01 / SCALE

1,780+ full jobs. Not clips.

Not a highlight reel, not a 40-video "course". Whole jobs, front to back, with the awkward bits left in. Years of filming with a full-time videographer, and it's still going.

02 / ONE VOICE

One electrician. One standard.

Every video is Ken or another Electrical How To mentor. Same method, same order, same standard, whether it's a light switch or a three-phase changeover. You learn one good way of working instead of forty conflicting ones.

03 / IT GROWS

Between 150 and 350 more a year.

Every Wednesday at 8pm, forever. Nothing else in this trade moves that fast. The platform you join today is the smallest it will ever be.

04 / YOUR CALL

Ask for a job, and it gets filmed.

Stuck on something that isn't covered? Ring the mentor team or send it through the app. A good chunk of the library exists because a member asked for it. Try asking that of a textbook or a stranger on YouTube.

05 / VERIFIED ONLY

Licensed sparkies. Nobody else.

Every member proves their licence or apprenticeship before they get in. No DIYers, no homeowners, no one pretending, which is exactly why the answers in the community are worth reading.

06 / DOMESTIC

All residential. All Australian.

No commercial filler, no American voltage, no theory that doesn't apply to the house you're standing in. Wired to AS/NZS 3000:2018 from the first video to the last.

You could spend ten years on the tools and not see what's in here in a fortnight.

Most members pay upfront and save $144 · monthly is there if you'd rather spread it

Before you ask

Why a 12-month term?

Because this isn't a streaming service you cancel in March. Real skill turns up over a year of jobs: the fault you hit in month seven, the board upgrade in month nine. The term keeps the price down and keeps the community full of people who are actually in it.

Apprentices, read this

Ask your boss. If they're already a member, adding you costs $289 a year, well under a quarter of the individual price, and a deduction for the business. If they aren't a member yet, send them this page anyway. Worst they say is no.

Electrical How To support team

Stuck on a job? Ring us.A real person on the end of the phone who's done the job before, not a help desk.

7-day money back

Get in, look around, put it to work. If it's not for you, email us inside 7 days, tell us what didn't work for you, and we'll refund the lot. One per person, and nothing to argue about.

Licensed electricians & apprentices only

This isn't a DIY channel, and it never will be.

Electrical How To is for qualified electricians and apprentices. We don't support DIY electrical work, and that isn't a technicality. If we wanted homeowners doing their own jobs we'd put all 1,780 videos on YouTube for free, and every one of them would be a job taken off a sparky.

So we don't. Membership is for people in the trade. If we find an account belongs to someone doing their own electrical work, we'll close it and there's no refund. It's stated here before you pay for exactly that reason. We're here to help sparkies, and only sparkies.

Straight answers

The questions everyone asks.

I want to join but I'm not sure I can afford it

Fair question, so let's do the numbers. A year is about a day and a half of your billable time. It works out at around 72 cents a video, and every Wednesday night we add another three to seven at no extra cost. It's a tax deduction. And it only has to stop one mistake, or win one job you'd have handed back, to have paid for itself twice.

The real question isn't whether you can afford it. It's what the next twelve months of guessing is costing you: the jobs you turned down, hours you lost, and work you had to go back and do again.

Why not just use YouTube? It's free

Because half of it is American, on 110 volts, wired to rules that don't apply here. Because it isn't searchable by the job you're standing in front of at 2pm on a Tuesday. Because it's forty different sparkies doing it forty different ways and no way to tell who's competent. And because nobody on YouTube is staking their licence on what they're showing you. Ken is.

What are the live Wednesday night calls?

Every second Wednesday at 7pm, Ken jumps on Zoom with members. You turn up, unmute, and ask Ken about whatever you're stuck on. Bring a photo of the board if it helps. It runs as long as there are questions.

Twenty-six of them a year, included in your membership. Every call is recorded and added to the Zoom Calls module, so if you're still on a job at seven you can watch it back.

Do you have a free trial or trial videos?

No. The library took years and a full-time videographer to build, and we're not handing it out for a week. What we do instead: the full category list above is open to anyone, there's free content on our YouTube and TikTok so you can judge the quality, and there's a 7-day money-back guarantee once you're in.

Is it relevant to my state?

Everything is filmed to AS/NZS 3000:2018, which applies nationally across Australia and New Zealand, and the wiring rules are broken into their actual sections so you can go straight to the one you need. There's also a module on Victoria's Service and Installation Rules. Where a job has a state-specific requirement, we say so.

I'm commercial or solar. Is this worth it for me?

That's a lot of our members. If you've spent three years on LED upgrades or solar racking, domestic is where the extra work is, and it's the part you were never shown. Fault finding, hot water, switchboard upgrades, meterbox work. This is the fastest way to add those services without learning them on a customer's house.

How long until I get access?

Within 24 hours of joining, once you've uploaded evidence that you're a qualified or apprentice electrician. We're strict about this. It's the reason the community is worth being in.

How does the employer plan work?

You join as the business owner on a full membership, then add each employee to your account for $289 per person per year. They get exactly the same access you do: every module, every Wednesday drop, the live calls, the lot.

So a business owner with four apprentices is $1,284 for themselves plus $1,156 for the team, so $2,440 for the year, or about $47 a week to have everyone working to the same standard.

The owner's membership isn't a technicality. The whole thing works because the boss and the apprentice are watching the same job done the same way. If you're a training organisation rather than a contractor, get in touch and we'll sort out something that suits.

Can I claim it at tax time?

Generally yes. It's self-education directly related to your trade, or a business expense if you're putting your team on. We're not accountants, so check with yours, but most members treat it as deductible.

What if the job I need isn't covered?

Tell us. Members send video requests straight to the mentors through the app, and a good chunk of the library exists because someone asked. If you're stuck on a live job right now, ring the mentor team and we'll talk you through it.
